:: momzee maternity, diaper bags, baby/toddler clothing and more on Haute Look today ::

The MomZee maternity sale on HauteLook today has me missing my bump. As if I wasn't already - the squishy leftover skin is not nearly as cute as the basketball that used to be there, but, my sweet little baby boy makes up for it all. I am very tempted to stock up on some cute maternity clothes for #2 (waaaaay in the future) because these deals are HOT! Almost everything is 70% off!

Lots of stuff is sold out already - I shouldn't have slept in! Check it out. If you are not yet a member of HauteLook click here to sign up.

They also have some gorgeous diaper bags by Timi & Leslie, and some fabulous baby and toddler clothes by Peek, and some really nice bedding by Thro.

A little about MomZee:

Momzee's maternity pieces run the gamut from feminine whimsy to bold, edgy couture, catering to a woman's delightfully capricious moods of fashion and expression, and seek to compliment her art form.

So hotly anticipated is the Momzee maternity line that orders pour in before the completion of a season's collection. Carried in Nordstrom and Bloomingdales online, Barney's Co-Op, and numerous other retailers, Momzee has been making waves in the high-end maternity wear market since its first season.

Momzee pieces are designed to turn heads as that woman walks into the room. Silky lengths of fabric flow to hug the contours of the body, and highest quality cotton supima and jerseys glide like air across the skin.

Comfort is a priority, and style the focus.

This ethereal stage of a woman's life calls for celebration. With this in mind, Momzee maternity celebrates the female art form, and in the brief time being, allows her to revel in the fleeting joy of one of life's shortest mysteries.

:: fashion friday - i wist i could buy all these ::

Yellow Kenneth Cole Trench on Jessica Alba via PeopleStyleWatch

It's warming up here in Calgary and I have spring fever. Which means shopping fever, and wanting all new bright and cheery clothes. Watch out hubby. :)

I have been searching for the perfect yellow trench for two years now. I love this one Jessica Alba is wearing but the picture is from 2007 (of course) so I am sure it is now unavailable. Boo.

I love clothes, and now that I am a Mom, I struggle with trends. What I am too old to wear? How can I feel like I am keeping in style and still choose outfits that are easy to nurse in?

I recently discovered ShopStyle - which is like a fashion search engine. It is super helpful to to find that one thing you have been looking for. You can filter your results to only see companies that ship to Canada, which of course I LOVE! I have discovered some new online shops this way too - which is verrrry dangerous.

I also installed a Wists Widget on my sidebar so you can see all the things I am inspired by or hoping to buy this Spring. Anyone else have Spring Fever??? I can't wait to be in dresses, skirts and sandals!

What's on your Spring Wishlist? Whats your favourite online shopping destination?

:: new mommies need to laugh ::

I really needed a laugh today. And I am quietly giggling to myself reading Let's Panic About Babies while little H is sleeping. After hours spent agonizing over a rash last night and googling and reading about every childhood rash out there, I realy needed a more lighthearted look at parenting.

CoolMomPicks calls Let's Panic About Babies a cross between The Onion and What to Expect when you are Expecting - and they are spot on. If you need a laugh today, go and take a look:

This one made me laugh so hard I cried.....but maybe I am just tired and easily amused.

What Kind of Baby Do You Have?

Surprisingly, not all babies are exactly alike. To be specific, there are four kinds. If you don’t recognize your own child in these descriptions, watch out. Is your baby ticking?

Someone else’s baby
• Suspiciously placid and rosy-cheeked
• Enjoys: hand-gazing, beatific smiling
• Falls asleep upon request
• Genetically modified vocal cords do not allow for crying
• Poops smell like lavender
• Not yours
• If she could talk, she’d say: “I’m trapped in an adorable baby-prison. Help. Me.”

Pissy baby
• First smile is more like a first sneer
• Lord help you if you try to swaddle him
• Growing his fingernails so he can cut you
• Enjoys: projectile vomiting on your new shirt
• If he could talk, he’d say: “Put that new shirt on. It looks so nice on you.” Then he’d chuckle malevolently.

Creepy baby
• When you walk into his room, for a split second you’re sure he was standing. You must have imagined that!
• Sports a thin, wispy mustache
• Doesn’t blink
• Cries sound like some kind of Latin verse, only backwards. Curious!
• Enjoys: Plotting
• If he could talk, he’d say: “Hello, mother. I have been waiting for you.” Isn’t that nice?

Misunderstood baby
• We don’t want to call her “ugly,” but, well.
• Deafening cries meant to express joy in being alive
• Screeches because she can’t sing yet
• Enjoys: a little refreshing lung exercise
• If she could talk, she’d say: “I love this place! Hey! I love you! What! This is great! Here’s how much I love everything! Get it? I can’t wait to talk! Until then, listen to some crying! Fun! Where are you going?”

:: {almost} wordless wednesday ::

My sister-in-law is expecting her baby any day and it has me feeling all teary and nostalgic about my little guy. Aren't babies are the most miraculous little beings? I still marvel at the fact that Hunter was all curled up inside me for all those months.....I can't wait to hold his little cousin very very soon and relive that tiny little baby feeling.

:: wallpaper on the ceiling in a lovely yellow nursery ::

Love this soft yellow nursery by graphic and interior designer parents Laurie and Andy of Rhoney Design. Their beautiful baby girl Mallory Gray is so lucky to have such creative parents who put together a whimsical, unique and cozy room to keep her enthralled for years to come. I am sure she loves looking at the birds fluttering on her ceiling.....what a fantastic idea for such a gorgeous wallpaper (by Julia Rothman - available here).

You can see more pictures of this lovely nursery on the Rhoney Design website. Read interviews with Laurie and Andy about the process of designing this fabulous room here and here.

:: new mommy style ::

I am in the in between stage with clothes right now. Ugh. Don't fit into my regular jeans (oh Rock and Republics....I miss you!) and my maternity clothes are too big. Solution? A fashion trend I swore about a year ago I would not start wearing - leggings.

Now, I don't think I could live without them! Leggings with tall boots, a long tank or shirt and a cardigan has become my new mommy uniform, which is a tad dressier than the Lululemon attire (although I do love me some Lulu.....I have my eye on a bag right now. ♥) that I thought I would end up living in as a new Mama.

A friend of mine who was rocking leggings long before it caught on amongst the common folk (like moi) told me her favourite pair - even amongst all the different ones she has bought at places like Aritzia - are a pair from Garage. Seriously. I went out and got a pair (for $12) and they are the best! Stretchy with a wide waistband to not show off your mommy muffin top (ugh) and keep their shape (no knobby knees). My ruffly new cardigan is Romeo & Juliet Couture - a label I discovered on Haute Look - found at my local Winners store!

So anyways.....until I can fit into my beloved jeans, I will be wearing leggings. Or, if it would get a wee bit warmer - dresses!

:: canadian etsy week - shoes, glorious shoes! ::

Hello All!

Sorry for the delay in posting today. I planned on writing this morning, but we went for an impromtu family brunch at an ah-MAZING restaurant here in Calgary. If you have not yet experienced Big Fish, you need to go. I have never had such a delish breakfast - and the best part is, unlike many other breakfast cafes here in Calgary, we did not wait in line at the door. It is definitely an as yet undiscovered gem. Go! I promise you won't be disappointed.

I feasted on Urban Baker raisin brioche french toast with orange curd and piping hot Kicking Horse Coffee, and the Hubs had smoked salmon eggs benedict. Auntie N had a mushroom, truffle and white cheddar omelette on duck hash, and Uncle C had a Soft Shell Crab club sandwich. I can't wait to return there for dinner, we peeked at the menu and it looks great, especially the desserts. I live for dessert. The fallen chocolate souffle with vanilla bean mousse caught my eye and now I can't stop thinking about it. *drool*. They have bring your own wine Wednesdays with free corkage - did someone say Date Night??

:: etsy 101 ::

Ok....before we embark on Canadian Etsy Week, I think I should give a quick Etsy 101 lesson for those who have not yet been bitten by the Etsy bug.

First, watch this video all about Etsy. (Can you believe how young the founder is?)

Next, sign up for an Etsy account here. This will enable you to compile a list of favourites (like a gift registry - yay!), and purchase items on Etsy. You can pay for items on Etsy using PayPal or your credit card. For a full tutorial about buying on Etsy, click here.

I promise you are going to looooove Etsy for so many reasons. Here are my Top 3.

1. I love supporting and buying handmade items
2. I can always find the perfect, unique gift for any occasion
3. You get to chat directly with the people who are creating your goods.

There are many ways to shop Etsy, and it can be overwhelming at the beginning because when you search there are so.many.items but I promise you can find the things you desire by browsing via:

Gift Guides - gifts for mom, dad, baby, pets and pet lovers, gag gifts...and many many more. A great jumping off point for the new Etsy buyer.

Showcases - sellers show off their top items, updated daily.

Colours - pick a shade and see oodles of items in this hue.

Featured Sellers - picked twice weekly by Etsy Admin. A little bio and a lot of eye candy from their shop.

Categories - so many things.....so little time! A great place to start if you have something specific in mind.

Geolocator - find great local artists and crafters here.

You can also keep reading my blog this week for photos of beautiful products for mom, baby and well....everyone. I'll be linking to a number of fabulous Canadian Etsy shops and posting about some great discounts exclusively for Mon Petit Amour readers! I'm so excited!

:: go canada go! ::

In honour of the Olympics being held in Canada, and with lots and lots of Canadian pride (and love for my favourite website), I am declaring this week....

Canadian Etsy Week!

I am going to be profiling lots of great Canadian Etsy shops in hopes you will support some of the crafters here in our beautiful country (and hopefully save a bit on shipping too!)

Hope you find the time to check in as you watch the games this week. I promise lots of eye candy and possibly some coupons, discounts or giveaways!

:: new mommy nosh - goody two chews ::

A friend of mine made these for me when Hunter was born. They saved me during the late night (and wee hours of the morning) feedings. I would wake up ravenous and these really hit the spot. Not too sweet and just the right amount of salty peanut butter. I have made them since and subbed in some millet rice flakes along with the granola and they are just sooooo YUM! Enjoy....they are addictive :p

Goody Two Chews
Janet and Greta Podleski - Eat, Shrink and be Merry authors

Ingredients:

1/3 cup light peanut butter
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
2 egg whites
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
2½ cups low-fat granola
¾ cup dried cranberries

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F. Spray a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat together peanut butter and maple syrup on medium speed of electric mixer. Add egg whites and pumpkin pie spice and beat again until smooth.

  3. Stir in granola and cranberries. Divide mixture evenly among muffin cups. Bake on middle oven rack for 45 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack before removing clusters from pan. Stir in an airtight container.

Makes 12 clusters

:: flylady for new moms - friday's routine ::

TGIF! It's Friday and your house is clean, your laundry is caught up, your groceries are bought and your errands are done. What the heck are you going to fill your Saturday and Sunday with? I hope you will have some Family Fun on Saturday and some serious relaxing on Sunday. If you are lucky enough to celebrate Family Day on Monday like we are here in Alberta, you get to add an extra day to your weekend - enjoy it!

Today is Friday - Clean your Purse and Car Day. Today Hunter and I will venture out and fill up on gas, check the oil and fluids, wash the car, and empty the garbage that might have collected in there through the week (multiple coffee cups perhaps?). I am loving these fancy car trash bags from AllysonHill on Etsy. Aren't they cute? The matching tissue holders are just adorable too. Who says you can't interior decorate your car?

Once your car is clean, empty out your purse or diaper bag and get rid of all the old receipts, papers and other garbage that might have found a home in there this week. Drop your heavy coins in your little one's piggy bank and enjoy a lighter and more organized purse!

You're ready for the weekend! I hope you enjoyed this cleaning and organizing themed week, and that you don't think I am a crazy retro housewife :p The thing I have always appreciated about the FlyLady's routines is that you don't have to be a perfectionist and you can jump in anytime. Even if you only implement one or two of the routines, it will make your life easier, and more enjoyable. So tweak the program to work for you and your family!

I am super excited for next week - I am going to be highlighting a bunch of fabulous Canadian Etsy Shops in honour of the Olympics! Go Canada Go!

:: flylady for new moms - thursday's routine ::

I hope you got something crossed off your to-do list yesterday on Anti-Procrastination Day! I got a couple things done and it felt so good. We spent the evening watching Couples Retreat (funny!) and enjoying our yummy dinner and apple crisp with vanilla bean ice cream. *drool*. Hubs cleaned up and shined the sink and I am ready to do my morning routine now, unload the dishwasher, throw in a load of laundry and get going out of the house.

Pack up your diaper bags and strap the baby in the carseat- today is Errand Day!

Hunter and I are going to do a couple of errands and then meet some friends for an afternoon at Mallzac (Cross Iron Mills). I can't wait to go to Forever 21.....did you know they have a new line of kids clothing called Heritage 81? None for babies, but they have some pretty trendy kids stuff! If Hunter was a bit older, I would be buying him this, this and these. Oh, but puh-lease.....who would make their kids wear these??? Spare the children the horror of acid-washed jeans!

Here is what is on the list for Errand Day.

- go to the registry and get his birth certificate finally!
- get the groceries
- drop off drycleaning

I like to get my groceries at Superstore since I can stock up on all of our household needs and toiletries at the same time. But of course, the real reason is that I love the Joe clothes for myself and for Hunter - which is probably the reason I am now forbidden to go grocery shopping more than once a week! I also love PC Blue Menu Items. I recently discovered the Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips. YUM! These will be so good with some Black Bean and Corn Salsa on the weekend!

Tomorrow is Clean your Purse and Car Day. Perfect, since I may need to be hiding some receipts and shopping bags after the Mallzac Trip. Good thing my Hubs doesn't read blogs!

:: flylady for new moms - wednesday's routine ::

Today is one of my favourite days in the FlyLady routines. It's Anti-Procrastination Day. I am a master at procrastinating. Heck, I even procrastinated writing this post! I should have done it last night, but here I am frantically typing this afternoon!

I will do anything but the one thing I really need to do. In the past, this has meant I cleaned my house, reorganized my closets, baked cookies and cakes, or just plain ignored the task and played on facebook or watched TV. As a teacher, I was always extra bad around report card time. All of a sudden we would be joking in the staffroom that we had so much baking being brought in by the teachers. Seems like I was not alone in my procrastinating ways.

I love to write to-do lists and nothing gives me more pleasure than crossing off items on my lists....but for some reason there are always a couple things that get shifted to new list after new list. For me, it is often making phone calls to companies (the phone company, the insurance company etc) because I hate waiting on hold! I also tend to procrastinate sending mail, like my medical receipts and thank you cards. Today is the day to pick one or two of those tasks and get it done!

As a new mommy I knew I would be writing lots and lots of thank you cards when my baby arrived so I bought a bunch of cards, gathered up all the addresses in one place and made a little Thank You Card Station at home. I have a list in there of all the people that are awaiting a thank you card and I cross them off as I go. Last week, on Anti-Procrastination Day I wrote 20 cards. Ummm.....procrastinate much? These were mostly from Christmas gifts and gifts we got when he was born in December. L'oops. I write them from Hunter's perspective with lots of jokes about how he keeps me so busy and he is sorry the card is so late. Hopefully that buys back our favour with the older relatives that expect thank-you's a little more promptly.

The funny thing is, I love to send and recieve personal mail. I have more stationary than I care to admit and I love using my personalized return address stickers and buying pretty stamps at the post office. I currently have my eye on two self-inking return address stamps on Etsy (pictured above). Aren't they cuuuuute? If only I could decide which one I want....I'll just put it off till next Anti-Procrastination Day. Ha!

This week I only have 5 more thank you cards to go, a couple calls to compare insurance policies and banana bread to make with the oodles of frozen black bananas that fall out of our freezer door all too often, prompting my husband to declare he is throwing them out. He'll regret that statement when he gets a piece of fresh banana bread in his lunch tomorrow.

Happy Anti-Procrastination Day! Don't forget to keep going with your morning and evening routines, and 15 minutes of decluttering each day. See you tomorrow for Errand Day.

p.s While I was cleaning on Monday, I got to thinking about some of the harsher cleansers I use in my house. I want to get rid of the really smelly ones because they give me a headache and I am sure they are not good for the baby! I use Method cleansers mostly, but I do still have some stronger stuff for toilets and showers. I remembered a website I found ages ago about 1001 uses for vinegar and I am looking forward to concocting some cleaners that are easier on us (and the environment!). Anyone out there make their own cleaners? Any tips?

p.p.s - Any hints on cleaning the oven? I set ours on self-clean on Monday and it smells so bad - like chemicals! I googled it and it seems to be still burning off the factory finish? It is a new-ish (2 years) oven and I shamefully have only done the self-clean twice, but turned it off after an hour because the smell was unbearable. What to do?

:: flylady for new moms - tuesday's routine ::

If you did the Home Blessing Hour yesterday, you are waking up in fresh sheets in a clean house. Nice.

I am starting to wonder if everyone is going to think I am trying to be a retro housewife. No, I did not vacuum in pearls and heels yesterday, and I am not one to let my husband off the hook with helping with the baby and around the house. I just wanted to share these routines because it has greatly reduced my stress level of keeping the house in order, and helped us to have lots more family fun time on the weekends.

I do however heels and pearls and drinking tea from teacups and saucers like the sassy housewife pictured. Hmmmm....

On to the plan for today then: It's Tuesday - Plan and Play day!

I use this day to Menu Plan for the next week. I love looking on foodgawker for inspiration. I just plug in something I want to use up (i.e chicken) and then I get a bunch of beautiful photographs of recipes to drool over! I have a nifty (hmmm....maybe I am a retro housewife....who says nifty?) little pad of paper from Michael's that I write the menu plan on for the week, and then I write my grocery list on the back. This has saved us sooooo much money on groceries. I don't go and buy the groceries until Thursday - Errand Day. I had to limit myself recently to going for groceries only once a week instead of multiple trips. Apparently I love to shop....whether it is for clothes, shoes or food. Oops.

If you are going to bake something sweet for Valentine's Day, I suggest you visit Bakerella. So much inspiration there. I am drooling over the heart-shaped cookie. Yum!

You can also use this day to plan activities for your weekend, register for classes, make appointments, or anything else you need to plan for the future. Once you are done your plans, it is time to play. Head out and do something fun with your little one. Go for a walk with a friend, hook up for a playdate, go to the library - the possibilities are endless. I love the Baby Guide to Calgary for lots of good ideas of outings that aren't the mall (the shopping addiction -it's a problem). Don't do any errands today unless they are urgent. Today is for fun errands and outings only! You'll do all your boring errands like the bank and such on Thursday.

Have a great day. Tomorrow is Anti-Procrastination Day. Tell your to-do list to watch out.
